Soft Tissue Sarcoma in Dogs
Question:
Good Morning,
My dog is a 13 year old black lab just diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma in his jaw. The tumor was removed. Now I need to know how I can heal him. I have him on a grain free diet with alot of organic greens along with Reishi, Shitake, Maitake mushrooms, Green Tea Powder, Vitamin c, N-acetylcysteine, Coenzyme Q-10, Selenium, Vitamin A & Vitamin E. I have had Reiki perfomed on him and he wears a Rose Quartz on his collar. I need more info as my ultimate goal is to make sure I have done everything to save my precious love.
Blessings,
Rene S.
Response:
Dear Rene,
Thank you for your inquiry to Holistic Pet Info. It sounds like you are on the right track with the supplements. Since the tumor was removed, did a Histopathologist examine it and determine if there were “clean margins?” That may also determine the prognosis for metastasis (spread). I’m sure your aware that the immune system is essential to eliminate or keep cancerous cells in check.
Along with grain free, the diet should also be low in carbohydrates, moderate protein and moderate to high fat. Cancer cells cannot use fat as an energy source but use carbohydrates very well. I have attached a cancer handout I often give my clients that covers other supplements and dosages that you may want to try. C-Caps by Pet Alive is also an excellent combination of herbs with anti-tumor and immune stimulant properties.
Best of luck.
Sincerely,

Follow-up Question:
Thank you for responding to my needs. The vet said the only way to get clean margins was to remove his jaw and the roof of his mouth. I can't put my dog through that. Is there a more of an aggressive treatment for this? After this I should have all my answers. Thanks again.
Rene S.
Response:
Hello Rene,
If you would like more aggressive treatment, then the best option is radiation or chemotherapy. I recommend discussing the prognosis of each type of treatment and side effects with an oncologist. This hopefully should give you all opportunities available to you for your laborador. Best of luck.
Sincerely,
Colleen Smith DVM, CVA
