Gastriplex for Vomiting and Diarrhea
Question:
My 16 year old American Eskimo dog was treated in late April for vomiting and diarrhea. As long as I feed him dog food, everything is fine now. Anything else he eats, including dog biscuits, brings the diarrhea back. I'm concerned about his teeth. He's 16 and I don't want to put him under anesthesia, but his teeth are getting worse. I have bought something called Breathalyser which is supposed to reduce plaque, bacteria etc., but I'm concerned that if I add this to his water, the diarrhea will return.
I have heard about a product called Gastriplex. Please let me know if you are aware of this product and if you would advise that I give this to Eskie so I can add the Breathalyser to his water. Thank you.
Response:
Hello Ben,
Thank you for your inquiry for inquiry to Holistic Pet Info. Gastriplex is an excellent supplement to support your Eskimo dog’s GI health. It contains probiotics to support his healthy bacteria, and licorice and quercetin to reduce inflammation in the intestinal lining. I recommend giving the Gastriplex for 2-3 weeks before starting the “Breathalyser”.
I’m also concerned about the type of dog food your dog is eating. I advise a holistic natural food with a high quality protein, low carbohydrates and moderate amount of fats, with no food dyes or preservatives. Essential Fatty Acids such as Super EPA by Thorne also help with inflammation and immune support. Best of luck.
Sincerely,
Colleen Smith DVM, CVA
