Dietary Suggestions for Cat with Allergies to Chicken

Hi!

I have searched for over a year now and LOVED finally coming-across your holistic website;  my poor Persian-Himalayan (who won't go near wet food or fish ) has had those itchy skin signs and throwing-up for over a year now ..

I know she's allergic to chicken, milk , AND cornmeal. Problem is she hates lamb - so that's not an option.
And unfortunatel the website links you provide at the bottom of your nice page on allergies don't lead to any dry food links w/o Chicken as at least a by-product !!!  ( I'm going to get California Natural Herring & Sweet Potato - but that has chicken fat in it .. which still affects my 10 year old cat ).

Do you have any idea of where I can get a Dry Food which is Fish based and has NO chicken fats or corn meal?

Hello Elaine,
Thank you for your inquiry to Holistic Pet Info. It is excellent that you have figured out your cat’s food allergy. Many never find and answer to their pet’s allergies resulting in numerous steroid shots and overall poorer quality of life.

The evolutionary diet for cats is fish or bird based because they naturally contain taurine, which is an essential amino acid not contained in any other protein source. It is unfortunate that your cat is allergic to chicken because the majority of cat diets contain some product of chicken or eggs.

There are several other diets not listed on the web site that are chicken and grain free that you may be able to find in your area. Here are some diets that I recommend that seem to match your cats needs: Natural Balance Green Pea and Duck, Orijen 6 fresh fish for Cats, ZiwiPeak Venison and real Fish meat and Evanger’s Phesant and Whitefish. The first three diets you can find on www.petfooddirect.com if you can’t find them in your area. Evanger’s may have to be located through their web site. I’ve included some non-fish diets because they are all well-balanced and may be an alternative if she becomes finicky. Best of luck.
