Using Gastriplex and Arthroplex
Question
Hi,
I have a 90 lb. 8 year old neutered german shepard lab mix. He has been on Gastriplex for 4 months now, working well -- he has a crazy digestive system, taking 4-6 daily. He hurt his back (running with a dog injury) and has also developed some arthritis. We are doing hydrotherapy and massage to rehab him. They recommended Arthroplex. My question - Gastriplex has glucosamine, if I add the recommended dosage of Arthroplex, will it be too much glucosamine?
Thanks so much,
Helen
Response
Hello Helen,
Thank you for your inquiry to Holistic Pet Info. There is a wide dosage range for glucosamine in dogs from 15 mg to 20 mg per pound. Your dog can receive over 1800 mg daily, and even more should not cause a problem. It is a very safe supplement with no known side effects or contraindications with other medications.
I recommend continuing the Gastriplex since it has been working so well and offering the Arthroplex at a dose of 2 capsules twice daily. You will not need to do a taper dose because he has already been receiving the glucosamine in the Gastriplex. Best of luck.
Sincerely,

Thank you so much for the information. As far as the "tapering" does that mean I can just keep him on 2 2x daily and not taper down to 1 2x daily after two weeks? thank you, helen
Response
You can keep him on Arthroplex 2 capsules 2x daily. This with the Gastriplex should keep him on the maintenance dose. thanks, Colleen
