Dr. Colleen Smith has this to say about arthritis supplements for dogs: MSM is an excellent supplement for joint health, you can give your dogs from 500mg – 1000mg for medium to large dogs respectively. Dogs unlike people do manufacture ascorbic acid (Vit C). It has been found that using glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM and Vit C together have a synergistic effect on joints by supporting the healing process, activating immune cells to damaged joints and increasing the anti-inflammatory process. Side effects are minimal to none with the only signs being gastrointestinal upset. If that occurs decrease the dose for 2 weeks and then adjust back to the recommended dose.
