Inhalant or Atopic Dermatitis

Atopy, also called Inhalant Dermatitis is an allergic reaction to a substance that is inhaled, such as dust or pollen. Pets with atopy become extremely itchy and will scratch or lick themselves excessively to find relief.

A holistic approach to treating pets with atopic dermatitis is to first identify the source of the allergen (dust, mold, pollen, etc.) and then reduce your pets exposure to it. Proper air filtration, vacuuming and even wiping your pets feet regularly will help to minimize their exposure. Weekly bathings with anti-itch moisturizing shampoos, and a high protein, low carb, moderate fat diet are recommended.
