Using Gastriplex and Arthroplex Together

I have a 90 lb. 8 year old neutered german shepard lab mix. He has been on Gastriplex for 4 months now, working well — he has a crazy digestive system, taking 4-6 daily. He hurt his back (running with a dog injury) and has also developed some arthritis. We are doing hydrotherapy and massage to rehab him. They recommended Arthroplex. My question – Gastriplex has glucosamine, if I add the recommended dosage of Arthroplex, will it be too much glucosamine?

Thanks so much.

Hello,
Thank you for your inquiry to Holistic Pet Info. There is a wide dosage range for glucosamine in dogs from 15 mg to 20 mg per pound. Your dog can receive over 1800 mg daily, and even more should not cause a problem. It is a very safe supplement with no known side effects or contraindications with other medications.

I recommend continuing the Gastriplex since it has been working so well and offering the Arthroplex at a dose of 2 capsules twice daily. Best of luck.
Sincerely,
Colleen Smith DVM, CVA
