Slippery Elm for Chronic Diarrhea

Dear Dr. Smith,
My 16 year old cat has chronic diarrhea, my Vet does not know why. I have tried diet change and various meds and supplements. I am wanting to order Gastriplex from your site and try it as the reviews sound promising. My question is I am giving him a product called Perfect Form from The Honest Kitchen. It is helping to keep the diarrhea under control but both products have Slippery Elm. Perfect Form does not mention the mgs, Gastriplex has 100 mgs.

Can I give both products to my cat without a problem, would it be too much Slippery Elm.
Please reply.

Thank you.
Gabriel.

Hello Gabriel,
Thank you for your inquiry to Holistic Pet Info. You may offer both the Perfect Form and the Gastriplex. The slippery elm should not be a problem in both of the supplements. You may try giving them at different times and watch closely as to how your cat reacts if you are concerned.
Best of luck.
Regards,
Colleen Smith DVM, CVA

Note: Slippery elm is excellent at healing inflammation and ulcers. The mucilages in slippery elm will act as a bandage to heal the intestinal lining cells. The bark of this digestive herb is rich in trace minerals, manganese, iodine, protein and soothing mucilage. It is a very highly respected herb in naturopathic circles and is regularly used by holistic veterinarians to treat a range of chronic and acute digestive disorders as well as to improve the health of the digestive tract.
