I have a nearly 16 year old Female Min pin that was spayed before her first period. She has been relatively healthy most of her life, but has always been a very sensitive dog. She has cataracts in both eyes and is completely blind and mostly deaf. She is still able to navigate around the house fairly well. Since losing her older sister 2 years ago, she was unable to cope and had to be placed on Fluoxetine 4mg, which we give her to help her sleep at night. We also had to add Xanax 0.25mg in the afternoons due to frequent thunderstorms here in FL. R
Recently she has had difficulty with urination. She was treated for hematuria with Clavamox and also given Rimadyl after an inconclusive x-ray to rule out bladder stones or possibly a bladder tumor (which incidentally showed deterioration in her hip joints). She seems unable to completely empty her bladder and moves around the yard, squatting and straining with only a few drips resulting. We have had frequent accidents in the house even though I am home with her and take her out frequently. My wish is to help her be as comfortable as possible without “going overboard” due to her age. I am interested in the Renal Essentials product, but am unsure if this will truly help the problem. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time.
Renal Essentials for Dogs would be excellent to help support your min pins kidney health. I would also recommend Glycoflex III Minis for her arthritis. Though with her other issues (anxiety, cataracts and hip issues) I highly recommend a holistic/acupuncture veterinarian. They can focus on these issues together without having to use multiple amounts of drugs and greatly improve her quality of life by relieving the anxiety issues.
You may find holistic/acupuncture vets in your area at: www.ivas.org, www.tcvm.com, www.ahvma.org. Florida has one of the highest concentrations of holistic vets, so you should have a great selection. Best of luck,
