I have been using Ocuclear from Thorne that I purchased at your website for quite a while; my 12 year old dalmatian has glaucoma.
Her recent blood test showed her kidney numbers to be very high. My vet and I are changing her diet to a lower protein, lower phosphorus food - I have stopped the Ocuclear because I am concerned about the amount of Vitamin A.
Do you think the Ocuclear formula could damage her kidneys?
Hello,
The vitamin A levels in Ocu-Clear are far below the toxic levels for dogs. It should not have a connection with the increased kidney values. Vitamin A is primarily stored and metabolized in the liver, therefore minimally affects renal function. Though if you are hesitant to continue the supplement since the values are elevated please discontinue the product.
Renal Essentials by Vetri-Science may help normalize circulation and improve renal blood flow. You may want to consider placing your dog on a canned kidney diet. The kidneys are very sensitive to hydration and the additional water may aid the renal function. Best of luck.
