High Liver Enzyme Level for Puppy

My 6 lb. female Chihuahua just had her yearly exams and shots. The vet called with the results of her blood work and told us that her liver enzymes are 167 and that normal is 50-107. She told us to wait two or three weeks and to take another blood profile. My dog is 1 yr. old very active and playful with no signs of illness.  I feed her Holistic Nutro Ultra dry dog food.  My question is how concerned should I be and are there any supplements I can give her for liver function? Please Help!

Hello,

The liver enzymes are not high enough for concern. Often they will come down their own. One of the enzymes will also increase with bone growth in young dogs so may not even have anything to do with the liver.

If you are concerned, you may offer your dog Hepagen-C by Thorne for your female at ½ tablet once daily. Likely the value should go back down on it’s own. Best of luck.
