Dog with Tumor on Right Atrium, Hemangiosarcoma

My 10 year old Golden Retriever has been diagnosed with a tumor of the right atrium. Unfortunately, they are saying hemangiosarcoma.  I know that disease too well, my former Golden had it.

The tumor was bleeding into her pericardium and my vet was able to tap fluid from the sac.  We went to Med Vet in Columbus and are now undergoing chemo and radiation……thankfully, the cancer appears not to have spread. She is doing well and I am happy to have her home.  Of course I am guarded as well.

I really want to start her on something to boost her immune system.  Would the  C-Cap, Immugen and Moducare interfere with the chemo or radiation?

She is presently on a great food “Nature’s Logic” which is high in protein and low in carbs and sugar.  She has been on that for 2 years.

I appreciate your input!

Hello,

I’m so sorry to hear about your Golden, it’s very tough to deal with cancer especially a second time around. The C-Caps, Immugen and Moducare should definitely help during the chemotherapy. Coenzyme Q10, Vitamin E, N-acetylcysteine, Vitamin C and antioxidants help decrease the toxicity of chemotherapy and Vitamins E and A also increase the effectiveness.

Continue the Nature’s logic, it is an excellent diet. If your Golden starts to loose weight, increase the fat content. Cancer cells primarily use carbohydrates, secondarily protein but cannot use fat at all. Best of luck.

Sincerely,

Colleen Smith DVM, CVA
