How do you stop diarrhea in a new mother? My dog gave birth 2 days ago and has developed vomiting and diarrhea today. She vomits almost immediately and about 20-30 minutes later has runny diarrhea. She doesn’t appear to be ill or in pain. What can I give her to stop this and not have it make the puppy that she is nursing ill? Thanks,

Thank you for your inquiry to Holistic Pet Info. Unfortunately, in this particular case with out a physical exam I cannot recommend a treatment not knowing the cause of the vomiting and diarrhea. I consider this situation very serious because she has just given birth.
She can possibly have hypocalcemia, internal parasites, a foreign body or even Parvo virus depending on her vaccination status.
I highly recommend you take her immediately to your local vet for an examination and additionally she very likely may need subcutaneous fluids due to severe dehydration at this point. Best of luck.
