I have a 14 year old cat that just had an emergency splenectomy which the Dr.’s didn’t think she would make it through, they are calling her the miracle cat. That said if she wasn’t so healthy to begin with that she wouldn’t have made it through the surgery, I thank all my holistic vitamins and food that I have been giving her. But my question is, if i should be feeding her any kind of special food now that she is with out her spleen, like a raw foods diet or would that be the opposite of what I should be feeding her? If you could please help me out I would be very grateful….
Hello,
Thank you for your inquiry to Holistic Pet Info. You may try switching to a raw diet, but you must be extremely careful. Since your cat is recovering from a life saving emergency surgery the transition to a new diet must be very, very slow. Ultimately, a raw or home prepared diet are the most ideal, especially over commercial dry. There are available raw diets on the market that you may try, The Honest Kitchen, Bravo or Primal are all good diets to offer. Keep in mind to transition by adding the new food in small increments to the old diet until the old diet is phased out. It’s good to hear your cat did so well with the vitamins, keep up the good work. Best of luck.
