Dachshund with Dry Eye

My dog has gone to three eye specialists and has been diagnosed with Dry Eye (keratoconjunctivitis sicca). My vet said The body’s immune system attacks the cells that produce a portion of the tear film resulting in decreased production. This is thought to be an inherited disorder.  I have used prescribed eye drops for my dog. It started with she was 3 months old and it is only in one eye. My dog is a dachshund. We useTacrolimus in the morning and night. During the days we use dry eye tear drops.

Since this could be an immune disease could you please tell me what would suggest as a holistic treatment?   I also give her RESVANTAGE CANINE.

Thank you for your help.

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry to Holistic Pet Info. For your Daschunds eye health you may offer Ocu-Clear by Thorne , it promotes ocular circulation and strengthens collagen structures. Also Gastriplex by Thorne, it is a digestive aid that contains probiotics. Probiotics help restore healthy bacteria in the gut, healthier bacteria support the immune cells. The stronger the immune cells in the intestinal tract the stronger the immune system is in the entire body.

Always keep in mind a good quality diet with whole proteins and whole grains (no corn gluten meal or by-products) is the foundation of good health. Best of luck.

Regards,

Colleen Smith DVM, CVA
