My cat has stomatitis. The vet says the only thing that will help is to have all his teeth extracted, which I cannot afford at $1,500 for the extractions and $350 a night with feeding tube till he has recovered. You have three different kinds of supplements on the website and I’m not sure which one will help with the condition. Any info would be greatly appreciated Just looking for something to build his immune system and help with inflammation. I have to mash all his food up and add water just so he can eat. Please help!
Hello,
Thank you for your inquiry to Holistic Pet Info. Since stomatitis in felines is an autoimmune syndrome, have you already tried steroids and antibiotics? Are all the teeth affected as shown by x-rays? Sometimes only the teeth with resorptive lesions should be extracted. Furthermore, surgical treatment of the gingiva can at times be done instead of full extractions.
It is thought that stomatitis is caused by an allergic reaction to bacterial plaque, and other concurrent diseases can play a role (Felv, FIV, FIP or Calicivirus). Has your cat also been tested for Felv and FIV?
To support the immune system you may offer Immugen by Thorne and Gumz-n-Teeth by PetAlive. They both should help the local and systemic immune system to help with the gum disease and chronic infections. If you are hesitant to put your cat through the surgery, I would highly suggest a second opinion, maybe even a holistic veterinarian. Best of luck.
