I recently ordered some Immugen for my cat. She has cancer and mild kidney failure. She is being treat with Metacam for the cancer and Fortekor, which contains 2.5mg of benazepril hydrochloride, for high blood pressure which is connected to the kidney insufficiency. Can you tell me if the Immugen is safe to take with these products? Our vet said that I should not mix potassium with the Fortekor.
Also the bottle said I should give a cat half a capsule. As these appear to be capsules with a powdery substance I’m not sure how to go about this. Should I open the capsule and try to half the substance or will it be safe to give her one every other day? Many thanks.
Hello,
Thank you for your inquiry to Holistic Pet Info. If you would like to use Immugen opening the capsule and just pouring half the capsule in the food should be fine. Immugen does not contain potassium so it should not affect the Fortekor.
You may also want to consider the supplement C-Caps by Pet Alive. It is also a great supplement for cancer. Since your cat has kidney insufficiency, you may ask your vet to try a different medication other than Metacam. Metacam is hard on the kidneys in felines and may not be the best choice with kidney disease.
Please also make sure your cat is on a good quality protein diet. Carbohydrate diets are not the best for cats in poor health especially with cancer. Best of luck.
