My cat is a 5 yr old male who recently had to take some antibiotics for a period of 8 days for an irritated bladder. His vet said the antibiotics were necessary to prevent infection, he was also given a shot and he is doing ok now.
My question is can I give him some of my own probiotics? I take the Kyo-Dophilus which include 1.5 billion live cells per capsule with L.acidophilus. B.bifdum and B.longum. If he is able to take it what dosage should I give him? Your professional advise would be much appreciated.
Hello Rosalinda,
Thank you for you inquiry to Holistic Pet Info. Yes, you can give your cat human probiotics. 1.5 Billion cells is actually a bit low so he can receive one capsule daily. Ideally probiotics should be given when he is on the antibiotics about 30 min before or after dosing.
You can also give him the probiotics just as a digestive supplement 3-4 times weekly. Best of luck.
Sincerely,
Colleen Smith DVM, CVA
